I've been having deep conversations and meaningful discussions this month on several podcasts I was invited to be a guest. A common message I find myself sharing over and over again lately? Why staying "tiny" can be a lovely strategy for your version of success and lifestyle choices. Now I know that's not as sexy as what other people may want you to believe. Where success needs to look like a six or seven-figure business when it doesn't have to be. But here's what I discovered when I stopped 'scaling' in a way people thought I should, and focused on designing a business that matched the kind of life I wanted to live. Staying tiny can mean making more money with fewer clients because you're focused on serving one-on-one with powerful and intimate services. Staying tiny can mean you don't need to manage people if that's not your thing! I've discovered how much I hate managing people, but I love working with project-based consultants or contractors I don't have to supervise. Staying tiny can mean you have less overhead and expenses. You get to keep more of your money without needing to churn out more work to pay more people in your team. Staying tiny can mean you get the kind of schedule your life needs. You get more flexibility to choose when you work and honour the rhythms you need to be at your best. Staying tiny can encourage you to focus on the essentials. Having one core offer you get really good at selling, instead of spreading yourself too thin by being everything to everyone. Knowing all this, I should also say it's important to understand what you NEED financially, spiritually, and intellectually in your work. Money isn't the only metric that counts in being successful. Create healthier metrics for YOUR version of success, or you'll always feel like it's not ENOUGH. Does staying small strategically to have the life you want resonate with you too? If so... This week, I'll take a workcation in Vietnam with my partner to give myself some space for Thinking Time. And, as I prepare to immersing ourselves in the vibrant streets of Hanoi and Da Nang, and indulging in moments of reflection and culinary delights, I'm reminded of the importance of space - space to think, dream, and refine the vision for my business. It's a reminder that simplicity and clarity can lead to a more streamlined, joyful way of doing business. Lydia ALSO: Here Are 3 Ways To Get My Help, Whenever You’re Ready…1) Tiny Business Revolution 💫 I'm working with an intimate group of people who want to build a minimalist business so that they have time to enjoy their lives while making a good living. When I was working in corporate, I didn’t hear my own voice. I couldn’t feel my instincts. I was so busy working 40, sometimes 60 hours a week, that I didn’t have the energy to ask the important questions: What am I doing? Why am I doing this? Is it worth the sacrifice? I remember calling my partner from a hotel room in Moscow during a business trip, completely frozen with panic and anxiety. My body had shut down from overworking and stress. It was terrifying, but it became the wake-up call I...
Hey Reader, I want to share a question that completely transformed my business (and my life): “What’s enough?” In 2015, I hit my highest revenue year ever in my business. From the outside looking in, I was crushing it. But inside? I was absolutely miserable. I was working more hours than I had in my corporate job. I had a growing team to manage, multiple offers to maintain, and an endless to-do list. I was chasing more growth, more revenue, more clients… without ever stopping to ask why. Then...
